My name is Tai and I’m from Hawai’i. I grew up sailing, swimming, and surfing in a tropical place surrounded by water, so its no mystery as to why I got into stand up paddle boarding. I also enjoy outrigger canoe paddling and doing hot yoga.
I picked up my first SUP in college on a surf sponsored trip to Barbados. Although I had been short boarding all my life, adding a paddle to the sport was a foreign concept to me. I actually didn’t like it at all. After much fumbling and frustration, I finally got it down and have loved it ever since.
Here I am four years later in Southern California going on SUP adventures almost every weekend. That same company that sponsored me in college has some of my favorite paddle boards on the market. (Pau Hana Surf Supply — definitely check ‘em out).
My favorite place I’ve paddled so far is along the cliffs at Terranea in Rancho Palos Verdes. I’m still getting familiar with places to paddle in California, but it helps that I have Austin, who is the ultimate guide and best paddling partner around 🙂 After we’ve tackled all the Cali paddles that we can, I’m excited for our paddling adventures to take us all around the world. I’m also looking forward to more overnight trips and multi-day expeditions, to combine my love of camping and being on the water into one.
I’m always looking for new places to paddle, so feel free to send suggestions my way!
